AF 35mm F1.8 FE with a Versatile Angle in Daily Life
The reason why I chose AF 35mm F1.8 FE,
the versatile lens
I have reviewed many lenses for a long time, and I used Samyang 14mm F2.8 before, so I knew that the image quality of Samyang lens’s outstanding.
I am happy that I cloud test Samyang AF 35mm F1.8 FE as a Samyang Creator.To be honest, Samyang offered me two options: AF 35mm F1.8 FE or AF 75mm F1.8 FE.
AF 75mm was an attractive option as well, because it’s a semi-telephoto lens, and more suitable for blurry background portraits and close ups.
But l chose AF 35mm F1.8 FE, because I think 35mm is a versatile angle in daily life. 35mm can be used for food photography, portraits, landscapes, architectural
photography, pet images, photojournalism, and etc.
This lens is very small as you can see. It is only 63.5mm and weights 210g! This very small ans light is well balanced with the size and performance. Everything is
included, and lens pouch is very solid and protects the lens very well. I am so satisfied with this high-end quality pouch. The hood is equipped upside down,
and you can find the red ring when removing the reversed hood.
There is the custom switch on the side which has various functions. For example, you can use Aperture Control Mode.
· Mode 1 : Turn off this function
· Mode 2 : Turn on this function
Someone may ask you why this function matters. Imagine!
You can adjust the aperture directly by turning the focus ring to the left(increasing the aperture) or right(decreasing the aperture)
The overall appearance is great. This lens is decorated a red ring and a silver thin ring. The filter size is 58mm and the lens looks even smaller than actual size.
It has a metal bayonet and is well balanced with my Sony A7R2.
This lens has 10 glasses in 8 groups
including 2 High Refractive glasses
and 2 Aspherical glasses.
AF 35mm F1.8 FE from F22 under the direct backlighting condition.
There is no obvious glare, but some glare can be seen from F8 to F22. There
is no problem in terms of image quality even at the maximum aperture, F1.8.
I took these images with 42 million pixels, but the edges are very clear.
Here is another sample image of a backlighting test.
There is a slight barrel distortion, which can be ignored.

The blurred background is very soft and beautiful, ans the color of AF 35mm F1.8 FE is very good as well.
These sample images are barely retouched to check the real color.

The lens station for Sony E needs to be purchased sepearately, but the lens can be upgraded through firmware updates with this lens station.
Conclusion
The sharpness is outstanding eve at maximum F1.8 aperture, and even the sharpness gets better at F2.0. The overall sharpness is very great,
and the color expression is very lovely. The autofocus is very reliable. The autofocus is very speedy and smooth even while shooting a video.
It performs well under the backlighting condition. There is no obvious flare and ghosting, and the distortion is well controlled.
This brand new lens performs way better than I expected.
